Our Herd
Our ranch is situated on 20 acres in Madera County, the heart of California. All of the does and kids have access to the barn as well as 5-acre pastures to exercise in. The pastures are a mix of Australian Clover, trefoil and Bermuda.
High Quality alfalfa and a 16% custom grain ration are purchased during the lactation season. During the winter months, the goats are fed a grassy/alfalfa along with a mix of Oats, Honor Goat and livestock yeast.
Baking soda, Kelp and cobalt blocks are available to the goats, along with a 20%
goat block alternating with an Equine Hay and Pasture supplement block, for increased levels of zinc.
Although the does are CAE-negative, we test thru WSU/WAADL. Our kids are raised on heat-treated goat colostrum and pasteurized goat milk from birth and we follow rigorous CAE prevention procedures. In addition, we have been enrolled in the Scrapie Flock Certification program. The does participate in the Linear Appraisal program in 2010 and 2011, and were in DHIR from 2006-2010.
During 2010, we greatly reduced the numbers in our herd to better care for the goats remaining and to find time to (experience other things). The does that were sold all found wonderful new homes. Those remaining with us are valued for their genetic potential and are family favorites.
All goats are de-wormed on a routine basis, alternating with: Valbazen, Ivomec, Safequard and a variety of Natural de-wormers.
